Professional Career

Throughout the past twenty-five years, Christoph Frei has kept moving between academia and the private sector. His research experience includes extended stints in the United States (1988-1990), in France (1995-2002) and in Hungary (2003-2006).

Frei currently serves at the University of St.Gallen's International Affairs programmes. At the same institution, he received the first Credit Suisse Student Award for Best Teaching ever conferred. His main scholarly contribution is an intellectual biography of German-Jewish emigré Hans J. Morgenthau, a founding father of the ‘Realist’ school of International Relations in the United States. Current research interests and publications cover the history of political ideas, the theory of international relations, and the impact of digitisation on modern statehood.
